Caren's Quilt

Okay so this quilt took me a long time to do.  It looks simple but I refused to use a pattern, even one I drew out myself, or ask for help and yet I wanted it perfect.  Oh and Pink and Purple.  That was my requirements.  At first is was to be a Just Because Quilt. Then when her graduation got near it became a Graduation Quilt.  Then when that time came and went it became a Bridesmaids Quilt for me to give her when she came to my wedding.. But that time came and went.  Then Caren announced her engagement and.. well you know what happened then... In the end I'm not exactly sure when i finally finished and mailed it... But I know she has it now!   One day I will have to get a picture of her and Casey with it :)

The picture doesn't do it justice. The pink and purple fabrics were just beautiful.

Alex and Jacob's Wedding quilts

For Alex and Jacob I wanted to make them something cozy, this was during my flannel craze after-all!  So I decided to make two light weight throws both using patterns dreamed up by me that truly only made sense to me maybe.  But in the end I loved the way they came out.  And because I used the same yellow in both I think they coordinate well together.

Nat and Stephanie's Wedding Quilt

When Patrick's friend Nat found his lady love in Stephanie to wed, Fay and I knew we had to make a quilt in commemoration.  For the front we chose a 'turning twenty pattern' and picked out black and white prints with a splash of red.  We tried to pick out prints that seemed.. Nat-ish.  For the back... it had to be something Monkey.... why.. because of a company called  Ximian.  And because monkeys are cool.  Mostly because monkeys are cool.

The Front as held by Patrick

A close up of the back:

....notice monkey fabric and monkey embroidery done by Fay....

And lastly a snippet from Nat and Stephanie's wonderful Email of thanks:

" Well we finally had a chance to take the quilt out and take some pictures with it. I can't tell you how much we love this thing. It's so beautiful. I've slept under it several times already. It's really true that a quilt makes a home.
For the picture we wanted to try to find a location that would match the beauty of the quilt, so we took it with us on our hike today, in the low mountains of the pre-Alps, at the very southern border of Germany.  The lake behind us is the Tegernsee."

And what post would be complete without a picture of the lovely couple. They sent us three, but the above is by far my favorite:

Quilted Crazy Stockings

So I made two stockings one day while keeping Patrick company while he was grading or doing something teacher-y.  I had found a free stocking tutorial online somewhere... which I then modified to make it 'elfish'.  Then because I had never tried my hand at Crazy Quilting, or rather to be honest because I couldn't decided on a fabric.... I pieced the entire two in as silly a fashion as could be expected.
... yes Patrick's has a Red Sox ornament
I've had allot of comments on these from people. Friends/Family and random viewers that saw them on a facebook quilting group I joined.  Makes me think that maybe I should make a bunch in various color combination and sell on Etsey..... just might :)
***update ***I am not ready to set up an Etsey store just yet.  So... if you are interested in one comment on the blog and I'll see what I can do!

Leila's Quilts

When my good friends The Hectors (not their real names but a nickname I dubbed them with that stuck) were expecting their little girl I started making them a quilt... that soon became 2 quilts.

The first quilt was mostly flannel with a pink Minky back that was oh so soft.  It reminded me of my baby quilt that is still folded up in all it's patched glory at the top of my closet.
Here it is:

The second quilt was one I couldn't resist making.  I had found this adorable Simpson's fabric and the Hectors are big fans, so how to resist?  Anyway here it is. I backed it with a super soft yellow fabric (perhaps a Minky as well, can't remember).
Here it is:

Leila was born and is I am proud to report a big lover of her quilts.

First Quilt

The story:  When my mother in law Fay came for her first visit to Alabama she brought along some quilting notions with the idea of teaching my husband and I how to quilt.  We did a Ricky Tims quilt that came together beautifully and I was hooked!

I will post a picture of this quilt here

We then all went fabric shopping and I saw a picture of a quilt that I really liked in one of the stores and Fay made a pattern similar to it and we purchased fabric to make it.. and well the rest is history!  I didn't take any pictures immediately and it hung on the wall of our first home for 5 years!  Unfortunately during it's last washing ti didn't hold up so well. Not surprising since my seam allowances were all over the place and I never quilted it more then making a few straight lines.  So I have it folded up now in my closet to one day be patches and fixed.  When I get a chance I will post pictures of this quilt in all its faded glory.
