Thank you to Kireen for our first donation!
I worked on the quilt a bunch these past couple of days. Still more to go,But so far it's looking rather fun! I can just see it being used on a picnic or something to sit on or cuddle under when watching fireworks. Or even draped across a table for a fun bbq buffet!
Interested? Then click donate on the side bar and for every 3$ you donate to help us pay for my late grandmothers burial you will be given a random number and an opportunity to call this quilt yours! Fanny would just love these colors and I am really enjoying making a quilt that so closely resembles the memorial quilt her friends and family have signed. Which reminds me, anyone want to go to Ikea and pick me up some fabric I need ? :) ?

I am holding a raffle for a quilt I have in the works. The proceeds will be to help pay for my Grandmothers Funeral/burial in New York in the fall and to help family get to NY that live out of state Entry's are 3$ each and the winner will be randomly chosen June 2nd at 10pm central time. I will mail the quilt for free to the winner. And don't forget, you can enter as many times as you want! For every 3$ you will get one entry. Lastly I will update with more photos of the quilt as it is finished.
Here is a sneak peak of what the quilt will look like. I've decided to use the same red/white/blue color scheme as I've done for the Memorial quilt.
To enter click the donate button at the end of this blog post or on the right side panel to the blog itself. The widget will track who enters and for what amount for me. Then check back for the winner June 3rd!
You can also buy a raffle ticket at my Kentuck table on May 21st. So mark your calendars!!! Kentuck a la cARTe fair in the Kentuck Courtyard of Wonders, May 21 from 12pm to 4pm. Please stop by! Sorry can't do this at the fair! BUT I will have some other exciting opportunities available. And ways to help with tornado relief, so stay tuned!
Lastly we are also working on a tornado raffle quilt so stay tuned for another opportunity!

update
Sorry for the lack of posting as of late. We have been pretty busy here (see previous post) and very little quilting has been going on. I did finally pull out my 'All Squared-Up' quilt that I started ever so long ago and redraw up the quilting pattern for it. It is almost done which is great. Here is my quilting pattern as a little sneak peak for you. Don't worry it gives little away as to what the final product looks like :)

What a Weekend
So this weekend started out with going to my lovely Quilt Guild Meeting where I learned all kinds of interesting information regarding copyrighting quilts PLUS of course I got to see projects other quilt guild members are working on, which is one of my favorite parts of the monthly meetings.
Are any of my readers part of a quilt guild or other craft group? I don't know about you but I always feel so energized to get to some sewing afterward. Very motivating. SO I did lots of sewing. Unfortunately I can't share pictures for what I worked on this weekend as its all for future presents :) So stay tuned!
Sunday was very busy. Our local Arboretum had its annual sale so hubby and I went just to look. And ended up buying, of course (who did we think we were kidding?). Which then meant we had to figure out where to plant our new treasures which is a slightly daunting task as we live on top of very compacted clay. We often wish for dynamite when digging.
Seriously. Sledge Hammers are a part of our gardening tools.
So we two tired individuals decided that since we had roughly 2 hours free before friends would come over for some bbq (yummers) ... we would build a raised flower bed.
And this I am proud of. We designed said 20$ flower bed
while sitting in the truck in the parking lot of our local hardware megatropolis.
To the right and left you can see my darling building away. Patrick feels orange shirts and fancy hats add to the construction process.
And the result is I think wonderful :)
We planted some miniature tomato plants. Two kinds of basil, oregano, bay leaf and lemon thyme. Plus some Red Sylvia and a Black Eyed Susan (a flower I can't see without thinking of my father).

Oh and don't think I managed to get away with not fabric shopping. Hancock was having a big fabric sale so I stopped by on the way back from the arboretum to get a couple of things. Most was only 1$ a yard!!!

Fanny's Quilt
![]() |
| Fanny in NY 1941 My paternal grandmother passed away recently and I'm not alone in missing her. Her family and friends have had so very many lovely stories and remembrances of her that I decided to make a memory quilt in her honor. I was first going to use her clothing (of which there was 3 carloads brought to goodwill besides those we distributed to family) or her silk and satin scarfs... but I decided that since I had people sign a plane white fabric rectangle at the first memorial service in Virgina, I wanted to choose fabric from my stash and make a more cohesive look. After all not only was my grandmother the original fashionista, I just couldn't bring myself to cut into anything! So I had my colors and I had already drawn up a pattern that used a Fan Quilt block as it's star. Now it was just time bite the bullet and make it happen! So what fabric to choose.... this was a wonderful opportunity to think about what colors, patterns and styles that really spoke to me when I think about my darling Grandma Fan. In the end, the choice was so obvious to me I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner: Red, White and Blue. Grandma loved the Fourth of July. She was proud to be the daughter of Joseph C. Baldwin and all that entailed and would make a cake decorated like the American flag and change out the wreaths on the front door to something patriotic every year. And if there was a parade, you know she would be right in front cheering it on and waving a flag. Since my husband I married, we seem to have thrown a Fourth of July party every year and I like to think that one day my grandchildren will celebrate the holidays with us and I can pull out this quilt and share stories of the amazing women who predeceased them. I know reading the kind words that everyone has included in the quilt has helped me heal and I truly look forward to bringing the quilt with me when I visit other friends and family who knew Grandma Fan and having them contribute their thoughts. So, what's left.... I have to find and buy more of the same white fabric and do some more sewing!!! Here is to you Grandma Fan! |
